Rapid Weight Loss

by Quick Weight Loss on August 28, 2011

Is rapid weight loss possible or is it the stuff of infomercials and glossy magazine advertisements with impossible-to-believe before and after pictures?

Well, yes, and no. It is a matter of getting the right mindset and finding the right strategy. You may feel the resolve and determination to lose weight quickly — perhaps for a special upcoming event such as your wedding day or a high school reunion — or you may just want to get it all over and done with so you can go on with your new and slimmer life.

If you have been searching online and googling all sorts of phrases — rapid weight loss diets — and how to lose weight fast, then you already know there is an information overload out there. You may have gotten on the scale and felt despair.

Rather than an assortment of diet tips — some of which may even be contradictory at best or unhelpful at worst — you will want to find something proven. It’s not the time to reinvent the wheel. While the basic foundation of losing weight by creating a caloric deficit is important, at the same time, crash dieting is not the solution.

Rapid weight loss does not have to entail crash diets, and indeed it absolutely shouldn’t. Such diets actually can endanger your health as well as set you up for failure, as you may find hunger and cravings intolerable.

On the other hand, if you have a great deal of weight to lose and it is endangering your health, you may want to consider opting for medical supervision to undergo a very low-calorie diet (VLCD). The Rice Diet — also known as the Kemper Rice Diet — is such a diet, which has a long established safety record.

However if you are looking for quick weight loss results on your own, at home and you do not have serious underlying health conditions, a comprehensive program that will encompass the right foods to boost metabolism, along with a structured exercise program for maximum results in the shortest amount of time is what you are looking for.

After all, the last thing you want to get into is the dreaded yo-yo dieting. You starved and deprived yourself for weeks and then suddenly felt overcome with cravings and, well, we all know what that feels like…especially the next day…ugh!

A few guidelines….

Keep calorie levels above 1,000 for best results. While the temptation exists to eat less to lose more, it can backfire, and without adequate calories you will feel tired, cranky, and ultimately set yourself up for a binge. Calorie cycling shows promise. This means vary the total amount of calories — if you have some 1,000 calorie days, then sift in a few days with, say, 1,200 or 1,300 calories.

Eat whole natural foods. Unprocessed foods can’t be underestimated. When you get away from the high fat, high sugar, high sodium diet, you will find you can actually eat more volume. Compare a couple of cups of broccoli, which will only have around 50 calories and yet with the fiber and water will be far more filling than say, eating a single cracker. It’s the mainstay of bodybuilders and fitness professionals to “eat clean” and this mean lean protein, non-starchy vegetables, root vegetables such as yams, sweet potatoes and white potatoes, and the old favorite rolled oats and steel cut oats.

Drink plenty of water. Water will curb your appetite. If downing a glass of water is not your great pleasure, then try sipping on tea. Use a natural zero calorie sweetener such as stevia, if you like.
